Sergey S. Nikitin. Editor-in-chief.

Sergei S. NikitinMD, PhD, professor, neurologist. Chairman of the Regional Public Organization “Association of Neuromuscular Disorders Specialists”.

S.S. Nikitin graduated from the Russian National Medical Research University named after N.I. Pirogov (former RSMU, MOLSMI No.2 named after  N.I.Pirogov), he was trained at the medical residency in the specialization of neurology at the department of neural diseases headed by academician L.O. Badalyan. In 1983, under the guidance of academician of the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences B.M. Gecht, he defended the thesis of the candidate of sciences named "Electric and Myographic Analysis of Development of Denervation-Reinnervation Process in Diseases of the Neuromotor Apparatus of Humans".

From 1980 to 1989, he was an employee of the Myastenic Center of the Research Institute of General Pathology and Pathophysiology. In 1994, he defended the doctor's thesis on the following topic: "Pathophysiological Mechanisms of Motor Disorders Affecting Different Levels of Cortical and Muscular System (Clinical, Neurophysiological, and Morphological Research)".

Directions of the research and clinical activities:

  • clinic, electrophysiology and morphology of inflammations (polymyositis) and hereditary myopathies, endocrine myopathy, myositis with inclusions;
  • myasthenia gravis and myasthenic syndromes, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of lateral amyotrophic sclerosis and other motor neuron diseases, mechanisms of formation of spastic paresis, evaluation of the functional state of cortical and spinal tract, acute and chronic demyelinating polyneuropathy (clinic, electrophysiology, differential diagnosis), as well as other rare forms of peripheral neuropathy (multifocal neuropathy with conduction block, Lewis-Sumner syndrome, Personage-Turner syndrome, etc.);
  • vertebral lesions of the peripheral neuro-motor apparatus (diagnostics, treatment);
  • tunnel syndrome (diagnostics, treatment);
  • hereditary demyelinating polyneuropathy (diagnostics, differential diagnostics);
  • facial nerve neuropathy (family and hereditary, recurrent, idiopathic, etc.);
  • disorders of the peripheral nervous system and muscles in systemic connective tissue diseases (systemic vasculitis , Sjogren's disease, etc.);
  • modern methods of electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG, ENG, TMS);
  • expert assessment of the functional state of the nerves and muscles after plastic surgery;
  • studying of the mechanisms of action of botulinum toxin; electrophysiology in urology (diagnostics of voiding dysfunction, erectile dysfunction);
  • patterns of denervation-reinnervation flow processes, mechanisms of formation of electrophysiological phenomena and compensation mechanisms of pathological processes in diseases of the peripheral neuro-motor apparatus;
  • diagnostics and differential diagnostics of levels of damaging of the central and peripheral nervous system.
